Notre-Dame des Victoires de Dakar cathedral welcomed, this Saturday, May 3, 2025, the enthronement ceremony of the new Archbishop of Dakar, Monsseigneur André Gueye. An exceptional event which saw the presence of the administrative, customary and religious authorities of the country, including the Minister of the Interior, General Jean-Baptiste Tine, representatives of the Church, the former mayor of Dakar, Barthélémy Dias, the president of the Imams and Oullemas of Senegal, El Hadji Oumar Diene, and the Grand Serigne of Dakar, Pape Ibrahima Diagne.

During his first speech as a pearl of Dakar, Monsignor André Gueye asked the support of all the faithful, priests and other actors of the Church. “I have never been interested in the role of archbishop, believing that it is only one more role or a responsibility reserved for others. It is to tell you that I never thought about it and I had to document myself and even ask teachers, theologians to know more. I ask for a lot of indulgence … “said Archbishop André Gueye, who requests the support of all priests.

In his speech, the new archbishop of Dakar, Mgr André Gueye, congratulated and thanked his predecessor, Mgr Benjamin Ndiaye, now Archbishop Emeritus of Dakar, to whom he wished a good rest. “Thank you for clearing the ground and indicated the path to follow. You are certainly behind, but you remain Archbishop Emeritus. This means for my part that I can always count on your wise, clairvoyant and prayer advice. I wish you peaceful and calm days somewhere …, “said the Archbishop of Dakar.
