The title of the Rockstar Games studio, promised to be a great commercial success, was initially planned for this fall.
Fans of the series were waiting for this new opus for this fall. They will have to be patient. Friday, the Rockstar Games development studio announced that their title «Grand Theft Auto VI» («GTA VI») is postponed from six months to May 26, 2026.
“We hope you will understand that we need more time to bring you the level of quality you are waiting for”said the company in a laconic press release.
GTA 6 is not just any video game. Its predecessor, released in 2013, has since sold to 190 million copies on PC and consoles. “The GTA franchise is undoubtedly the most profitable in the history of entertainment!”, Has exclaimed in 2023 Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the American publisher of video games Take-Two, who publishes the saga. More than 10 years of waiting
GTA’s adaptations had to wait ten years before seeing the first images of this suite, which is in a city parodying Miami. The trailer has exceeded 100 million views less than 30 hours after its online on Youtube, a record for the video platform (excluding musical clips).
If Rockstar Games wants to refine its blockbuster, this postponement is bad news for the video game market. After a gloomy year 2024, the distribution players were betting on this outing, as well as those of the Nintendo Switch 2 console (scheduled for June 5), to give a big boost to consumer spending.
This outing was fear by the other video game publishers, who carefully avoided stalling their next big titles at the end of 2025 for fear of leaving head -on in front of the GTA 6. These are those who had bet on May 2026 who now find themselves in difficulty.
