Miami Grand Prix – Sprint race: Lando Norris wins a crazy race

The weather has disturbed the cards during the Sprint race. Indeed, only 45 minutes before the start of the race, it is a real tropical rain that fell on Miami.

The whole of the grid took place in the rain, which strongly disturbed the grid of the teams. Charles Leclerc was the first pilot to start but the Monegasque could not prevent his car from leaving for aquaplanning in the middle of a straight line. The choice of Ferrari to make him leave in intermediaries was thus criticized on the radio by Lewis Hamilton.

The training round therefore took place behind the safety car. But even under these conditions, this did not prevent the fault, going all right at the end of the right right line. The race director then decided to suspend the starting procedure because of a blatant lack of visibility and therefore released the red flag for a 28 -minute break. It was enough for the rain to stop completely, which highlighted the humidity in the air thanks to the ambient heat.

When leaving, all the pilots were in intermediaries, for two recognition laps behind the safety car. It was enough for the race director to decide that the departure is stopped, namely the usual procedure. The departure was clean, without the slightest clash. But Oscar Piastri was able to reissue his departure from Djeddah and managed to take the best on Kimi Antonelli at the first turn, which was forced to get out of the track. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen took the opportunity to also win a place each. The commissioners did not even decided to investigate the incident since the Australian was completely inside.

In the eleventh of the 18 laps, Yuki Tsunoda was the first pilot to pass the medium tires in order to gather information for the race of tomorrow which could also take place under the same conditions. The next round, Lewis Hamilton, in difficulty with his intermediate tires, imitated him when he was sixth and therefore in the points.

This was the trigger for a new crazy phase in the Sprint race. Indeed, Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli also plunged into the path of the stands but the two pilots struck when the Dutchman left his stand while the Italian was going to dive into the following box. The commissioners did not hesitate to inflict a ten -second penalty on the quadruple world champion, depriving him of any opportunity to score points during this race, especially since his front left fin was damaged. The poleman of yesterday was relegated to the tenth place final.

But then Oscar Piastri also made his stop at the stands and Lando Norris was forced to stay on the track since McLaren could not make the two stops in a row since the gap was too weak. But what could have been a disaster for the Briton was in the end what gave him the victory since, behind Liam Lawson sent the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso in the wall. The safety car had to intervene, which allowed Lando Norris to make his own stop and come out right in front of his teammate and therefore win.

Lewis Hamilton took advantage of chaos to go back to third place while Alex Albon performed a great operation with the points in fourth place. Similarly, Lance Stroll, who was again eliminated in SQ1 yesterday, went up to sixth place, between George Russell and Liam Lawson. Oliver Bearman also died by scoring the point of eighth place.
