The group “not one more penny” continued the office of energy regulation in court for its decision to increase the price of electricity by 16.1 percent. The complaint aims to obtain the cancellation of the decision, because it is considered illegal.
The Energy Regulation Office (ERO) was continued on Friday by the group of citizens “not one more penny”.
The complaint was filed with the Pristina court of first instance by lawyer Ardian Bajraktari, who represents the group which opposed, even by protests, to the decision of the ERO to increase the price of electricity by 16.1 percent from May 1.
“We demand the cancellation of the decision to increase the price of electricity. This decision is contrary to the rules and is discriminatory. We have tried to demonstrate that this decision must be canceled, because it has chain and irreparable consequences, “he said after having filed a complaint.
And in a later message on Facebook, Bajraktari announced that he had also sent a request to the institution of the ombudsman so that, in accordance with his mission and his constitutional and legal powers, she is involved in this case, as this would help to establish justice for the process.
The mediator had asked a few days earlier from the energy regulatory office to suspend the decision to increase the price of electricity until the end of surveys on the many complaints of citizens that this institution received.
According to the mediator, the decision to increase the prices was taken at a time when there is an institutional vacuum.
-On April 16, the ERO decided to increase the price of energy by 16.1 percent for all categories of consumers. He did this despite the organized demonstrations and the calls of citizens not to increase the price of energy.
The representative of the group “not one more penny”, Ali Sefaj, expressed his hope that the court will rule in accordance with the requests presented in the complaint.
“The court is the institution before which we will challenge this decision. We think he will rule in accordance with our requests, “he said.
Representatives of the business world have also warned of the possibility of lodging a separate complaint against Ero’s decision to increase the price of electricity.
The new prices have entered into force since May 1. The high price for domestic consumers, who consume less than 800 kilowatt hours of electricity per month, increased from 7.79 cents to 9.05 cents per kilowatt, while the low rate has increased from 3.34 cents to 3.88 cents per kilowatt.
A few days ago, the price of bread increased in certain bakeries, while coffee prices have also increased in certain cafes. It was also warned that the price increase would occur again from May, after the entry into force of the increase in the price of electricity.
