The Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region recorded a significant improvement in residential conditions between 2014 and 2024, according to High-Commissariat at Plan (HCP). The share of housing connected to electricity increased from 93.5 %to 97.4 %, and the connection rate to the drinking water network reached 75.7 %, clearly increasing in rural areas.

The road service has also got closer to households: in rural areas, the average distance to the tarmac road is now 2.3 km against 4.3 km in 2014. This distance is the shortest in Tangier-Assilah (0.8 km) and the longest in Chefchaouen (4.1 km). These developments reflect a strengthening of the accessibility of housing to basic infrastructure.

In parallel, the HCP observes a drop in the share of proprietary urban households (53 % in 2024 against 56.7 % in 2014) and an increase in that of tenants (35 %). Tangier-Assilah displays the highest proportion of tenants (42.3 %), while Larache remains mainly made up of owners (65.2 %). The average occupancy rate is 1.5 people per room.

Finally, the Moroccan type habitat remains dominant in an urban environment (73.6 %), even if its share regresses for the benefit of the apartments. The summary housing retreats to 1.1 % and the housing fleet is generally rejuvenated. Nevertheless, the share of housing under the age of 10 progresses little, or even back in rural areas.
