Sami Belhaggat, 28 -year -old Roubaisian, climbed the steps in Cannes two years ago. A strong memory that he keeps in mind with emotion. “We go up before the stars, but there are already people, photographers who are interested in us”. Today, Data Analyst, he believes that the project carried out within the Deschepper Youth Resources pole, the town hall of Roubaix, gave it a taste, or at least a certain curiosity for author cinema and not only for blockbusters. Mustapha Mechaiakh, coordinator of the pole, had accompanied him. “It only works for young people who have an attraction for cinema or audiovisual”he explains, noting that some of them pierce as the humorist Ilyes Djadel or Omar El Aissaoui who has already had several second roles, or cuckoo.pops, on Tiktok.

“In fact, it’s just the opportunity to dig a interest in cinema and transform it into a vocation, why not? … We try to provoke the spark”adds Noredine Belgacem, responsible for the structure.

Dorian Czurka, from Carvin is 23 years old. He did three years of study in psychology. Today, he returns to his first love: video editing, sector of activity in which he intends to resume studies. “My coming to the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, put me in the ear, it had appeared to me fantastic to put everything in the assembly to do something perfect. We know the bad shots, the stutters, the failures and, to the editing, all this fades to do, something raw, something beautiful”.

These are these types of vocations, for young people – having an appetite, but far from the world of cinema – that the youth look at cinema exists, at the national level. In the Hauts-de-France region, Roubaix and Hénin-Beaumont are two municipalities that are part of the system. This year they are sending eight young people this year with two teachers who accompany them.

Sébastien Zanchetta, journalist, is the national coordinator of young people on cinema. He explains that the trip to Cannes takes place in three highlights. “One, accreditation, viewing a film followed by the production of a video report, with a deadline. Two, a meeting with professionals: technicians from the first circle of a film. Three, a gala evening with the viewing of a film in official competition with the climb of the steps”.

It marked me for life, it brought me more self -confidence and the certainty of what I wanted to do. I remember crying when I got home from this stay.

Juliette Monchicourt, theater student

“The idea is also to show these young people that behind the glitter, the bling-bling, the stars and the red carpet, that Cannes is a gigantic film market. It is also a question of extending their interest in the cinema in possible vocations”. Like that of Juliette Monchicourt, 20, who has always dreamed of making cinema as an actress, and who returns to her week’s stay in Cannes in 2019. “It marked me for life, it brought me more confidence in myself and the certainty of what I wanted to do. I remember crying when I got back from this stay”, continues that which is currently in the second year of theater license at the University of Lille.
