Oliver Oakes, director of the Alpine F1 team, denied rumors that Jack Doohan was replaced during the next round of the championship, in Imola.
The future of Doohan has been the subject of new speculations after a sponsor of Franco Colapinto, the oil tanker YPF, said that he would make his debut for the “in Imola” team, the place of the race that will follow Miami.
Oakes said the team had no intention of replacing Doohan or his teammate Pierre Gasly.
“For the moment, Jack is our pilot, alongside Pierre,” He said at the FIA press conference in Miami tonight. “I think we were quite clear about it.”
“We always assess the situation, but today, that’s how.”
OAKES said it was aware of the words of the Sponsor of Colapinto and recognized the considerable interest of the public as to its possible arrival in the team.
“I saw him, like everyone else. He was an Argentinian sponsor, in Off, who gave his opinion on Franco and his future pilot. I am sure that many people in Argentina would like to see him in the car this Sunday. I think we were quite open, as a team, to the idea that these are only rumors and that Jack must continue to do good work.
