Volodymyr Zelensky’s message went badly. This Saturday, Russia accused the Ukrainian president of uttering a “direct threat” against the security of the celebrations of May 9, the day when the 80th anniversary of victory against Nazi Germany will be celebrated.
“He threatens the physical security of the veterans who will come to the parades and celebrations of this sacred day,” castigated the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on Telegram. “His statement (…) of course constitutes a direct threat”.
The leaders of around twenty countries must stand alongside the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, on May 9, including his Chinese counterparts Xi Jinping and Brazilian Luiz Lula Da Silva, as well as those of traditional allies of Russia such as Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, Cuba or even Venezuela.
-kyiv refuses the game of mini-briefs
However, earlier this Saturday morning, Volodymyr Zelensky said kyiv could not guarantee the “security” of international leaders who will be present in Moscow.
“We don’t know what Russia will do on this date. It could take different measures, such as fires, explosions, and then accuse us, “said the Ukrainian president during an interview with the press. He took the opportunity to demand once again a “total and unconditional” ceasefire, refusing, in passing, to “play” with the short truces proposed by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin including a cease-fire from May 8 to 10.
On the Russian side, it is said that this proposal aimed to “test the disposition” of kyiv to peace. Moscow had already imposed a ceasefire during the Easter weekend, which Ukraine accepted. But on Monday, Russia took over its strikes more beautifully.
