Some regions of the northeast of the United States will receive disturbing quantities of rain. Quebec will avoid the worst, but will not be able to escape it completely. Forecast.
Multiple effect blocking
When a breakdown system moves slowly and stops, it sets up a situation that can create several rainy days for certain places. Not ideal for outdoor activities and possibly problematic for travel, but at least, this situation can alleviate drought and wasteland problems. It is precisely an atmospheric traffic jam that settles through the United States. Some regions of the northeast may be confronted with rainy episodes for several days from this weekend and until next week. On the other hand, the cloud cover and the humidity linked to this blockage will prevent night frosts during the weekend.
Up to 100 mm of rain
The rain will be very intense in certain sectors in the northeast of the United States. In the north of Pennsylvania, we are talking about 75 to 100 mm of rain by Monday. The rest of the state should expect to receive between 50 and 75 mm of rain. The situation will be similar in the south of New York State as well as in certain parts of Massachusetts and Connecticut. The south of Vermont and New Hampshire will not be outdone with between 30 and 50 mm of rain.
Barely touched Quebec
Fortunately, Quebec will avoid the worst of this situation. South Ontario, especially the Toronto region, will be splashed on Sunday, but the bulk of the rain will pass to the south of the border. We could therefore receive between 20 and 30 mm of rain around Lake Ontario by Monday, but between 2 and 5 mm in southern Quebec. And even there, these precipitation will be concentrated along the border.
Inevitable unlock
The situation will be different from Tuesday. The blocking should start to end and the system will move north and east. Precipitation will thus reach Quebec from Tuesday morning. The rain is expected to continue all day on Tuesday as well as Wednesday. The southern province will be affected first, but precipitation will reach almost the entire Quebec territory.
Up to 30 mm of rain
In total between Monday evening and Wednesday, we are talking about 20 to 30 mm of rain in Estrie and Beauce, and perhaps a little more in Saguenay. The Montreal region, Mauricie and Côte-Nord should receive between 15 and 25 mm of rain. The Laurentians, the Outaouais, Abitibi, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie should expect 10 to 20 mm of rain. Témiscamingue could get away with less than 10 mm of rain.
