The chief of the conservative party of Quebec has formalized his candidacy for the complementary election of Arthabaska. François Legault must trigger this partial by mid-September to replace the Lefebvre deputy who made the jump to the federal.
Éric Duhaime sees in this constituency a dreamy opportunity to enter the National Assembly. He is right to try it. The Victoriaville region is conservative to the federalty and there is a fabric of SMEs that can create a fertile ground for an economic program further on the right.
Let us understand, it is far from being won for him, but his chances are real and he improves them by promising to be early. Trust him to be visible locally in the coming weeks.
For the past two years, his conservative party has moved away from the almost conspiratorial themes with which he had flirted during the pandemic. He focused on more serious work, relating to economic issues and state governance. This is likely to open new ears to his message.
Public finances
Despite the presence of four parties in the National Assembly, we always have the impression that the skating rink remains free on the right. The Quebec’s discount has suddenly gave the CAQ. The party is stuck to justify that its big expenses and generous collective conventions were based on the public good.
However, voters are mainly surprised by this failure on the part of an accounting and administrators’ party. And they are little impressed by real improvements in public services, especially in health.
The Liberal Party tries to resume its credibility on the theme of public finances, but its efforts are timid and the French speakers always seem insensitive to its messages.
The PQ has been on the sails for two years and he has a responsible speech on public finances. Arthabaska will nevertheless be a big test. The block finished third with a star candidate this week. Let us add that the baffles of the sovereignist movement on the public square could cool voters.
Hoped -for
Éric Duhaime has managed to maintain himself in the polls despite low visibility. In the past few months, we have even seen him pass in front of Quebec Solidaire a few times.
The calculation made by Éric Duhaime is simple. A victory in this by -election would have the potential to propel your party. In three ways:
- It would be instantly taken more seriously.
- He would have a major visibility gain in the immediate future, in addition to improving his long -term visibility by a presence in the National Assembly.
- He would take a blow to three opponents who fight for the same clientele: the CAQ, the PQ and the Liberals.
The federal conservative party obtained more than 23% of votes in Quebec on Monday. With a few good shots, Duhaime can dream of this threshold.
