One on the new BMX site in Tina, the other at the Gustave-Lods school in Logicooop

The night from Saturday to Sunday was synonymous with activity for firefighters in Nouméa. Two fires started on the Gustave-Lods school site in Logicoop and on the BMX set in Tina. The first observations seem to indicate voluntary acts. Two surveys are underway.

During the night of May 3 to 4, around 1 a.m., a fire ravaged the premises of the BMX track, located on the road to Tina. They had just been inaugurated on April 19. The structure, made up of four grouped containers, was partly destroyed: two were completely burned, the other two were damaged. Two teenagers aged 16 and 17 were arrested in the act, according to the police.

It took eight months of work to see this rare site out at the national level. A financial investment, but above all human. “These are men and women who invest themselves on a daily basis to be able to develop sports practices, offer young people quality infrastructure”deplores Philippe Le Poul, Director of Culture, Youth and Sports of the South Province.

On the other hand, the BMX ramps remain intact, “We can therefore practice the activity of BMX. But now, we have to see under what conditions. For that, we have to work with the regional committee”, specifies the director.

Earlier in the evening, around 11 p.m.on the same road, projectiles targeted a car and then a police vehicle. Police were stabbed and had to use tear gas to restore calm, income around 11:30 p.m..

A fire broke out last night Around 7:30 p.m. In a premises of the Gustave Lods school in Logicoop, more precisely in the old disused house of the goalkeeper. The fire took in the living room. A louver was forced, a signs of break -in. The firefighters, intervened quickly, circumscribed the fire. The police were also on site. An investigation is underway. As a reminder, the establishment had already been partially burned last year, during the events of May 2024.
