The International Salon of Edition and Book (SIEL) in Rabat was the scene of a strong moment for lovers of contemporary literature: the preview launch of “We were an island”, the new highly anticipated novel by Noor Ikken.
This second opus, which extends the first summer, one of the great successes of 2024, confirms the hatching of a singular and sensitive literary voice.
A month of April rich in meetings
The month of April was particularly intense for the author, who first met her Parisian audience during her very first participation in the Paris Book Festival. Noor Ikken offered a final signature of the first summer there, before reserving to the Moroccan public the premiere of his new novel.

In Rabat, the enthusiastic reception did not disappoint: requested on several occasions, Noor Ikken presented we were an island on the stand of the French Institute, during the morning book club, as well as at the Hiwar room, under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, where she exchanged with many students. Each meeting was an opportunity to note the strong emotional resonance of his work, as well as the attachment of the public to his characters and his pen, both lively, incisive and deeply human.
A novel with an intimate and universal breath
Between tenderness, deaf anger and quest for freedom, we were an island pursues the sensitive exploration of Moroccan adolescence in the 80s. Noor Ikken confirms here his unique talent to capture the tumult of young hearts and silent flaws of a changing era.
