In the Vivaldi, I experienced great moments of loneliness, it’s right … I understand your analysis but there is a big difference between Vivaldi and Arizona: coherence is much greater between the parties of the majority. There are nuances, of course, but no big incredible deviations as in the time of the Vivaldi. There is teamwork.
If the MR could not take the file on the limitation of unemployment benefits to its end, will the government fall?
We are not there. I have a lot of contacts with Frank Vandenbroucke and we try to cross the difficulties. We will find solutions, I will not make matamoresque statements. I am always on the side of solutions. It is undoubtedly linked to my long experience as a bourgmestre (from Bièvre, editor’s note).
What do you think of Bart de Wever as Prime Minister? Having a Flemish nationalist at the “16” who was able to make unpleasant words for French speakers is not trivial.
It is very correct and very loyal. He takes care to apply the government agreement as properly as possible. We know all the journeys of each other. Maxime Prévot (Vice-Prime Minister committed) and I make sure that the interests of Francophones are not forgotten. So far, I have not seen any files where the desire to promote one community rather than another was felt.
David Clarinval: “The FGTB attacks us because their business model is in danger”
Elio Di Rupo (PS), former Prime Minister, declared on LN24 that the limitation in the time of unemployment was bothering the end of Belgium and Social Security.
What Elio said translates what I said about the PS: for French -speaking socialists, the limitation in time of unemployment benefits is a cultural change, the end of the assistantship to move on to an activation system. For the PS, it is fatal: the whole socialist system, Walloon as Brussels, is based on the maintenance of the assistantship to feed the party electorally. It is this system that we break. For them, it’s the end of the world. But it is only in Belgium that unlimited unemployment exists.
However, do you understand the concern of the CPAS sector which will have to welcome many excluded from unemployment?
I understand it absolutely. With Maxime Prévot, we have also made sure that Anneleen Van Bossuyt (N-VA, Minister of Asylum and Migration also in charge of CPAS) comes as quickly as possible with her project to reform CPAS so that, from 2026, there is support for CPAS. Several hundred million euros will be allocated to CPAS.
