Will the Mons-Quévy police area still exist in the future?

The city of Mons and the town of Quévy no longer agree on the endowment. Since the creation of this police area, over 20 years ago, Quévy finance up to 3%, Mons is responsible for the rest. But since the elections, there has been change.

The Cité du Doudou proposes that Quévy invests more in the police zone, to double its endowment, go from 3% to 6% of funding, an additional 800,000 euros. But the municipality will not be able to hold the pace, according to its bourgmestre, David Volant: “C‘is impossible budgetary since we carried out with the previous legislature a little more than two million euros in provision. If we have to increase our endowment by 800,000 euros each year, we would be in Mali Global, after two years“.

The municipalities can fix the financing amounts by concerting themselves but if no agreement is reached, there is what is called the Kul standard. A model that will distribute these endowments. And in this case, it provides a contribution of 6% of the municipality of Quévy.

For its part, the city of Mons sees no other solution, “Like the 2025 budget of major cities, especially that of Mons, is particularly difficult to complete, the Walloon Region requires us to implement a whole series of management measures to optimize our revenues and our expenses. In this exercise, we identified the police area as a potential source of economy since, somewhere, Mons has been paying too much compared to Quévy for several years“Explains the mayor of Mons, Nicolas Martin. The bourgmestre of Quévy hopes a negotiation but if his endowment is revised upwards, the town will undoubtedly leave this police area.
