For his first exhibition in Toulouse, the artist Manü reveals a raw, instinctive and vibrant universe, crossed by intimate and collective emotions. Gathered under the title “Who are we”, his paintings are to be discovered until May 31, at the Privat bookstore.
Whether it is the magician, the jazz man, the general, the lover or friends …: the imaginary characters who populate the very colorful canvases of Manü directly challenge the visitor by the force and the energy they give off. With their wide and full mouths, always well defined or even sewn; Their asymmetrical, richly ornate eyes, and their transparent bodies which house geometric shapes, they capture attention with intensity.
This Toulouse painter artist offers her very first exhibition, carried by a disarming freshness: who are we?, Presented in the vaulted cellar of the Privat bookstore, in Toulouse. In the midst of the bricks, his paintings respond: “There are good vibrations, it looks like they talk to each other,” rejoices the artist.
Inspired by the neo-expressionist movement and in particular by the work of Basquiat, Manü flourishes in a raw style. “My creative process is completely instinctive and intuitive. Self-taught, I am looking for the transmission of emotions using a raw, sometimes primitive drawing, and bright and intense colors, reflections of the power of feelings that I want to share, ”she explains.
“I always had that in me”
In each of his paintings, the artist deposits a deep and powerful exaltation, in total pictorial freedom. Manü painted “under music. I listen to Philip Glass, on the piano, it’s heady. When I start, I never know where I’m going. Often, the final table has nothing to do with the work of the start. When I go out, I am soothed. I float, ”she slips.
Manü embarked on painting barely a year ago, “even if I always had that in me,” she says. In a way, she takes up the torch of her grandfather, Salvatore, also a painter, but in a completely different style. “I loved his creativity and his extravagance, he had a little Dali side, he was a character! During her lifetime, we never exchanged on the subject, which is still crazy, but we understood ourselves, ”she admits. Today, Manü uses his latest pencil to sketch his paintings: “My grandfather is in all my paintings, it’s my way of transmitting,” she said, very moved.
Exposing is also exposing. This very first meeting with the public deeply upsets the artist. “I had not measured, it’s extraordinary,” she concludes.
