The city of Lectoure honors the artist Gascon Jean-Claude Pertuzé by giving his name to the media library and by valuing his work.

On Saturday April 5, the city of Lectoure paid tribute to graphic designer Jean-Claude Pertuzé, artist of the town, in the presence of his family, his friends and enthusiasts of Gascon culture. The media library was thus officially baptized by the name of Jean-Claude Pertuzé by the mayor, Xavier Ballenghien, accompanied by the culture assistant.

In his speech, Michel Salanié recalled that this decision followed the exhibition, in May 2024, of around forty posters of the artist usually kept at the Paul-Dupuis museum in Toulouse. “I think that Pertuzé would be proud of this baptism because he was very attentive to writing, learning, imaginary, all things that are obviously present in this place,” he said, insisting on his role as “memory passer”.

Born in Lectoure on September 11, 1949, Jean-Claude Pertuzé was particularly illustrated by his work on the “Tales of Gascogne”, a work collected at the end of the 19th century by another illustrious Lectourois, Jean-François BoDé.

A Pertuzé Fund

Xavier Ballenghien, for his part, recalled the different facets of the talent of Pertuzé: “Illustrator, graphic designer, Bédéist, who excelled in history and in the field of folklore, without forgetting to make people laugh”.

He also recalled the creation of a Jean-Claude-Pertuzé fund, recently enriched by an exceptional gift of drawings and sketches unveiled by Anne Depis, responsible for the media library, on this inauguration day. This fund reaffirms the municipality’s desire to “continue the development of access to culture” while honoring the memory of a local artist.

Through this double initiative, Lectoure lastingly inscribes the work of Jean-Claude Pertuzé in his cultural heritage, recognizing comics as “an element in its own right in literature”.
