About 15% of runners feel insecure during their training sessions, according to a study carried out by the Union Sport & Cycle and revealed Friday April 11 by the Radio France Sports Department. This feeling even reaches 27% among 18-24 year olds.

More than one in two runners (56%) has already had to face problematic situations when they released. Most of the time, it is insistent looks or sexist remarks. 17% of runners say they have already been followed, 7% were victims of displaced gestures and 3% threats or attacks.

Thus, almost three -quarters of the runners (72%) declare that this insecurity has consequences on their practice and implement strategies to avoid dangerous situations. Indeed, 66% of respondents choose suitable courses and 61% avoid running at late hours. More than half of runners (60%) say a loved one systematically before leaving to run and 40% of them use a geolocation application. Finally, 14% adapt their sports outfit and prefer discreet clothes. Another obstacle to running for women: menstruation. 32% of runners stop running or adapting their training during their period.
