A fight is a fight. However, when the lights shine a little more, the crowd becomes slightly louder and the risks are a little higher, it is when Ryan Garcia’s motivation is in the clouds.
This Friday night, Garcia (24-1, 20 knockouts) will be exactly where he wants to face Rolando “Rolly” Romero in the star fight of the Fatal Fury billboard: City of the Wolves from The Ring magazine, from Times Square.
Garcia, 26, does not need to mention it. He knows, his promoter knows it, and the rest of the boxing world is very aware of what awaits him if he gets victory. With a rematch against Haney on the horizon, Garcia is more concentrated than ever. But even having a couple of great fights in his calendar, the ex -champion interim tries to add some more.
Conor Benn stressed last weekend. It uploaded two categories, from the wélter weight to 160 pounds, to face Chris Eubank Jr. in a brave but worthy defeat.
Benn (23-1, 14 knockouts) was already a star. Now? You may have doubled your fans base. Taking into account his popularity and his ability as a boxer, Garcia is attracted to the idea of facing him.
“That would be a great fight,” Garcia recently told Seconds Out. “I am willing to come here and we can cross gloves.”
Benn’s performance is still present in Garcia’s mind. The heart that demonstrated, power, speed, everything was in tune, despite falling short in the result.
Even so, fighting someone who comes from a defeat does not bother Garcia. The Locouaz star has never been myopic and does not care how many defeats has accumulated a potential opponent throughout its boxing career.
It is enough to ignore the final result and simply focus on the fight that took place. If you do, you could reach the same conclusion as Garcia.
“He had a great performance, although he lost,” Garcia continued. “I see many holes in his style that Chris did not take advantage of, but it was one of the best fights I’ve seen in my life. It was crazy.”
