The administrator of the territory of Kalemie (Tanganyika), John Mutombo, announced, Friday, May 2, that negotiations are underway with the group of kidnappers who took hostage a Chinese employee of the GLC cement plant as well as a young Congolese. According to this local authority, the kidnappers demand a ransom to release the two hostages.
According to John Mutombo, the Kalemie-Kabimba axis is experiencing a series of armed attacks and kidnappings, targeting Chinese nationals. An insecurity that arouses the concern of investors in the region, regrets John Mutombo:
“The GLC company has engaged more than 80 % of the youth of the Kalemie territory including those who come from the province. If our partners are already starting to worry like that it is not a good thing. A week ago, road cutters set an ambush to an convoy on this axis, killing six soldiers from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and removing a Chinese national as well as a young Congolese. To cope with this situation, an army reinforcement was deployed in the area to try to find the hostages.
The administrator of the Kalemie territory calls on the authorities to act quickly to put an end to these kidnappings.
