The feline “was found in a black, dirty and striped transport cage, but seemed to have supported the fall fairly well,” said the organization Best Friends Animal Society in a press release.

The animal was rescued Tuesday evening at the bottom of the Canyon Bryce, in a national park in the Utah State, alongside the lifeless bodies of its two owners identified as Matthew Nannen, 45, and Bailee Crane, 58, according to the local sheriff.

The couple died between Monday and Tuesday, said sheriff in a statement.

The cat, now called “Mirage”, was entrusted by the authorities to the Best Friends Animal Society. “She was a little sore, but was friendly when she examined her, and she drank and ate alone,” said the organization.
