Forest fires have caused evacuations to Fort St. John and damaged optical fiber cables in the community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
A fire that started about 20 km south of Dawson Creek destroyed an optical fiber cable and generated internet network and cellular telephony even interrupting communications with the RCMP detachment.
The fire that broke out on Wednesday has extended over more than 35 hectares even affecting traffic on highway 55 North would be of human origin, believes the British Columbia Fire Security Service quoted by the Global News on Thursday.
Another fire, the cause of which is linked to human activity, which was reported Thursday, has already affected more than 20 hectares in the community forest of Fish Creek, near Fort St. John, while the municipal administration urges the premises.
The BC Wildfire Service indicated in a recent report that even if the drought had reduced in a large part of British Columbia, northeast of the province remained arid and presented a high risk of forest fire this season, according to the global network.
