“I don’t consider myself a slave to this sport”

For the second time in his career after 2022, Francisco Cerundolo will be present in the last square of the Masters 1000 in Madrid.

Soon back in the Top 20 (virtually 18th), the Argentinian took the time at a press conference to talk about the Netflix documentary on Carlos Alcaraz. In one of the episodes, the world n ° 3 evokes its desire ‘of not being a slave to tennis’, to which Cerundolo replied:

“I don’t consider myself a slave to this sport. In no case. Obviously, to arrive where I am and where Carlos is, you have to put it for many hours and make a lot of effort. But I believe that in the end, all the players who are here have chosen this path.

Maybe some have become professional because they are talented and not necessarily fans, but most players have chosen this profession. They are happy and know what to do to get there. If you want to continue your career, you have to find a balance between positive and negative things linked to tennis and life.

Everything is not pink of course, everyone must find their balance and know what makes them happier. It is necessary to spend time on it, as in each profession and each field. Things do not make magic. »»
