Boxing: Canelo Alvarez becomes the undisputed champion of super-media

Canelo Alvarez defeated William Scull by unanimous decision to become the undisputed champion of the super-media on Saturday in Riyadh.

At the end of a disappointing fight, Canelo, holder of WBC, WBA and WBO belts, recovered the IBF belt of Scull which he had abandoned last year by refusing to fight then against his compulsory aspirant.

Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 K.-O.) therefore once again unifies all belts among super-media.

The three judges gave Canelo (34 years old) winner of a fight where few shots were exchanged.

Scull, who underwent his first defeat there, was particularly fleeting, with an effective leg of legs, but without managing to counter-attack.

“I don’t like to box this kind of guy, they just come to survive. A boxer who does not try to win, who just wants to survive, I hate this kind of fighter, “groaned Canelo in the ring after the fight.

Canelo, who held the center of the ring, managed to place mainly blows to the body, but frustrated as the fight was advancing.

He now has an appointment with the American Terence Crawford, the mid-house champion, for a fight in Las Vegas on September 12.

“Crawford is one of the best, it’s going to be a pleasure,” added the Mexican.

Badou Jack defends his belt

In a fight for heavyweight supremacy, Badou Jack kept his belt by defeating Noel Mikaeljan by shared decision on Saturday.

The 41-year-old Swedish fighter signed the victory by majority decision on Mikaelyan by scores of 115-113 on two cards, with a judge who noted him 114-114.

Jack brought his record at 29-3-3 (17 K.-O.), while Mikaelyan fell to 27-3 (12 K.-O.), bowing for the first time since his defeat by decision against Mayiris Briedis in 2018.

Jack had not fought since he had won the title in February 2023 when he eliminated Ilunga Makabu in the 12th and last round.

Mikaelyan had not fought for almost as long as he had put K.-O. Makabu later in the year.

He then won the belt that Jack had left vacant in order to get into a new category, before Jack reaffirms his claims on the title and Mikaelyan was named “a stay in a stay” instead.

Munguia takes care of Surace

Frenchman Bruno Surace was beaten by the Mexican Jaime Munguia by unanimous decision of the judges during revenge between the two boxers.

Surace, 26, had created an immense surprise last December by putting K.-O. Mexican, rising boxing star, on its land.

Surace seemed to try to resist his opponent, who boxed with application.

“The most important thing was to have the right mentality and what I needed to do after a fight like the previous one. Jaime Munguia is there to stay, ”said Mexican in the ring.

The two judges gave Munguia winner at 117 against 111.

Surace, entered the air of The run From Francis Cabrel in an almost empty room, underwent the first defeat of his career (26 victories, 2 draws).

Munguia went to him after her defeat against the Frenchman, and a year after being dominated by his compatriot Saul Canelo Alvarez.
