What are more Vaudois than the 20km from Lausanne? For more than forty years, this race has been sweating young and old on its various routes. Among the 30,000 followers, 88% of participants come from the canton. Suffice to say that the Lausanne race is a real institution. So much so that she became the 2e Running event in the country, behind the unbeatable climbing.

Apart from the Papet and Château de Chillon, we do not see what is more unifying than the 20km of Lausanne. An appointment that runs generations together. We start the 2 km and 4 km for fun, with the family. Parents initiate their children. Sometimes it is the grandparents who accompany their descendants in their first race.

We participate in theAperitif Between colleagues or with friends, to live a friendly moment and without headache. Some set the challenge of running 10 km. The others attack the Reine test and its famous ascent towards the cathedral, so much feared by neophytes. Taking the cobblestones on rue de Bourg and reaching the city is such a deliverance that we would almost forget the last part of the route with its endless Finish of Vidy.

So many memories as the tens of thousands of participants will take their whole lives with them.

Rally, event no 1 of the canton, does not forget anyone. Lovers of the intense effort aligned for 5 km, to those preferring to walk with or without sticks on a closed route just for them. Always with the free categories reserved for children. A requirement that the president of the IOC Juan-Antonio Samaranch had formulated at the creation of the 20 Kils.

If the organizers think of everyone, they do not forget their ecological responsibility. Three -quarters of the purchases made come from the region, and even 90% are made within the limits of our borders.

To minimize the environmental impact, apples and carrots are distributed to supplies, rather than bananas. We use recorded dishes. We set up sorting centers. Electricity comes at 100% renewable energies. Admittedly, these are symbolic measures, but the desire to do well is omnipresent.

Paris 2025 and ecology

We know, however, that the congruent portion of greenhouse gas emissions comes above all from transport to the place of the event. And not only in Lausanne. During the recent Paris Olympic Games, 40% of emissions came from the transport of athletes, visitors and various observers.

So, in recent years, the participants in the 20km of Lausanne can move freely from their home to Vidy and return, thanks to the Swiss Runners Ticketincluded in the registration price. A solution that reduces the footprint on our environment.

More ecological, more festive, more unifying and more Vaudois than ever, the 20km have every reason to be still a total success this year.
