This time, the soap opera between the Professional Football League (LFP) and Dazn, British broadcaster holding TV rights in Ligue 1, is coming to an end. The LFP board of directors, gathered on Friday May 2, acted the end of “dispute” judicial between the two parties which lasted several weeks. Initially engaged until 2029, with an exit clause at the end of the 2025-2026 season, the British broadcaster got along with the League to withdraw at the end of the season. “Dazn will thus pay the LFP the 140 million euros due for the end of the season “, specifies a source close to the file in franceinfo: sport.
As a reminder, Dazn had Ligue 1 TV rights over the period 2024-2029 against 375 million euros annually. The British platform also had an exit clause at the end of the 2025-2026 season, if it had not reached 1.5 million subscribers in December 2025. In great difficulty, with only 700,000 subscribers, Dazn had initiated mediation in February, after having attacked the LFP before the Paris Commercial Court.
The British broadcaster demanded in particular 573 million euros from the LFP “For observed breach” et “Deputy merchandise”. On April 15, this mediation between the LFP and Dazn had failed, while the broadcaster had refused to pay 120 million euros in compensation to the League to break this contract. If Dazn will go well at the end of the season, Ligue 1 therefore has no broadcaster for next season today.
According to a source close to the file, the league intends to “Test the market to distribute a league channel 1″. A first stage meeting would be set at the end of May “Once the market is tested with options on the table”. In the event that Dazn does not participate in the creation of this chain, the British broadcaster should pay a break -in allowance, the amount of which has not filtered.
The arrival of Nicolas de Tavernost at the head of the LFP Média – close to Maxime Saada, president of the Canal+ group – could for his part change the situation by bringing Canal+ to the discussion table. The historic partner of French football, set back for several years, would welcome this LFP channel project. According to our information, Canal+ would be interested both to produce the 100% Ligue 1 channel, but also to broadcast it via its MyCanal streaming platform.
