DN2 – Alexandre Mickalezyk: “I’m here to have fun and help great guys who are worth it” – Rugby to XIII

Alexandre Mickalezyk, before Grentour Rugby XIII, talks about his return to the field and returns to his season in his new club.

Alex, I left you two years ago after an interview where you stopped rugby and here you are in Greentour this season, what happened?

I had to breathe! The rhythm of the Elite is supported, especially when you do a lot of hours at work next to it, the journeys several times a week in Limoux became complicated, I left too much time … If my childhood club had been closer, I would surely be there. But the soul of Gretentour seduced me, not only by its proximity but also by its humility and its values. It was the right place to put the cover back.

What do you think of your season collectively and individually?

Collectively, we have a very heterogeneous group, but which obviously knows how to live together. Everyone brings what they have to bring, there is no one put aside and we all get out up, we try at least!

More individually, I try to bring everything I can to the group, I have been given responsibilities that I take pleasure in ensuring. Besides, pleasure is the key word of my season, I am here to have fun and help great guys who are worth it.

You have a big season by being in the semi-finals, how do you explain these results?

-

It is true that so far our results are very satisfactory, some will have a bad pleasure in putting this on the fact that we have recruited “elite guys”, while 90 % of the group is the same as last year. I just think that the progress in the championship is better framed. We have guys who like to win, that’s all. Everyone wants to be better, we have elders who have not touched a ball for 5 years, players who have never left the DN2, even Gretentour, who are delighted to welcome new heads, and this year, we have a successful cocktail.

With your experience, what differences do you see with the other levels in which you have evolved?

The level differs very necessarily, we have a championship filled with valiant guys who defend their club with passion without having rubbed shoulders with the highest level. So the differences are especially noticed in terms of discipline, but there are interesting attitudes in each of the workforce. It’s nice to rub shoulders with guys who do not take themselves for another.

What would be a successful season for you?

Our season is already successful. We just miss the icing on the cake (laughs).
