Saturday, May 17, 2025Brittany will vibrate to the rhythm of 21st edition of the European Night of Museums. From Côtes-d’Armor to Morbihan, passing through Loire-Atlantique, Finistère and Ille et Vilaine, cultural establishments will open their doors until midnight, offering public of all ages a night immersion in history, art, traditions and regional heritage.
An edition under the sign of the rural worldin the continuity of the “culture and rurality” plan launched by the Ministry of Culture. The objective: to rediscover museums often forgotten, but rich in local testimonies, in ancestral know-how and in unknown stories of our civilization.
Original animations all over the region
HAS Lamballe-Armorthe Mathurin Méheut museum will pay tribute to its eponymous artist with more than 250 works on display and immersive devices. Not far away, Dinanthe Yvonne Jean-Haffen museum will participate for the first time at night, opening the artist’s house-workshop at night, “La Grande-Vigne”, in an intimate atmosphere.
In the Finistèrefamilies are invited to Quimperat the Breton departmental museum, for an exciting adventure-investigation from 7 years old. HAS DouarnenezPort-museum will vibrate to the sound of concerts inspired by the Aegean Sea, with a touch of musical workshop for children. HAS Morlaixit is the site under construction of the museum that will become an in situ discovery course, between vestiges, secrets and transformations.
In Ille-et-Vilainevisitors to Rennes will be able to dive into the popular carnivals of the West, at the Museum of Brittany, with flash visits on confetti or mysterious Touloulous. HAS Glazedmedieval medicine and jet weapons will be in the spotlight at Château-Museum in an immersive and family atmosphere.
The Loire-Atlantique
The Morbihan is not to be outdone: Port-Louis will offer two singular experiences. The National Museum of the Navy will stage in its citadel a dancing reconstruction with Baroque ball and historical dances. As for the Musée de la Compagnie des Indes, it will host a poetic exhibition of the porcelain of Florence Corbi, in subtle dialogue with maritime history.
In Loire-Atlantique, the European night of museums promises to be particularly rich and diverse. At Nantes vineyard museumat the Pallet, visitors will be able to discover an exhibition mixing Art Nouveau and viticultural landscapes, the fruit of student work in vocational baccalaureate. An unprecedented jazz concert will top the evening, with Chloé Cailleton, Simon Mary and Geoffroy Sonmier, without forgetting pancakes and wine tasting. HAS Nantesthe public will have the choice between several emblematic places: the Natural History Museumopen until midnight, will present its exhibitions “treasures & biodiversity” and “specimens” in a friendly atmosphere; THE Art museum will offer a complete program including guided tours, restitution of school projects, contemporary dance and Wasis Diop concert. THE History Museumat the castle of the Dukes of Brittany, will renew its “twilight at the castle” event, around citizen and committed themes. Literature lovers will be able to visit the Jules Verne Museumwith flash visits, linocut workshops and immersive discovery of the writer’s universe.
On the side of Guérandaise peninsulathe Batz-sur-Mer Museum of Salt Salants Promises an energetic and interactive evening with the “Ludik Energy” device mixing physical challenge and artistic discovery. HAS Saint-Nazairel’Ecomuseum will put in the spotlight the memory of the Second World War with animations around the liberation of the city and a focus on “the pocket”. Finally, at Châteaubiant castlevisitors will be able to go freely or on a guided tour The Museum of Resistance and the career of the Fusing, with an accent on the history of France between 1943 and 1945.
A free, popular and rooted party
Thought for all, freeuser -friendly and intergenerational, the European Night of Museums is also an opportunity to restore meaning to the cultural transmissionwith the operation “class, work!” ». Students from the whole region will present the fruits of their annual work around a local work, becoming the time of an evening Mediators of a living heritage.
