At the call of associations, unions and political parties, more than a hundred demonstrators met this Friday, May 2, 2025, place of the victory in Perpignan in tribute to Aboubakar Cissé, killed on April 25 in a knife attack, and against Islamophobia and racism.

A collective of organizations, associations and political parties including the League for Human Rights, SOS Racisme, MRAP, ASTI 66, NPA or Insoumise France had called this Friday in Perpignan to a rally against Islamophobia and racism and meditation in homage to Aboubakar Cissé. This 21-year-old was killed by 57 stabbing on Friday April 25 in the Grande-Combe mosque in the Gard.

More than a hundred people answered the call, place of victory, at the foot of Castillet.

“We are here to oppose the bad winds of the extreme-right of thoughts and consciences”explains Francis Daspe, departmental coordinator of rebellious France. “We trivialize inconceivable things”he protests, pointing “The extreme-right swers which lead to these acts. We want republican principles ‘freedom, equality, fraternity’ are not vain words. We are there to defend them.”

For his part, Mehdi Belabbas, president of the association for memory, against oblivion, believes that“We arrive at a critical point with this crime. We need a strong mobilization against this rise in hatred”. “Secularism is not stigma” point the latter adding that “The French of Muslim confession have the same rights and the same duties”. The activist also denounces “The release of extreme speech”.
