A ski hiker was found dead on Saturday morning at the Roland breach, geological training at the Pyrenean border Franco-Spanish, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, announced the gendarmerie peloton of Haute-Montagne (PGHM).
Warned by two Spanish hikers, help were dispatched to the scene by helicopter, but the Samu doctor could only see the death of the victim, a 58 -year -old man from Sabers (Landes).

The hiker left alone on April 30 and was to find friends on May 2 in a refuge by Gavarnie-Gédre (Hautes-Pyrénées). “An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the death,” said the PGHM in its press release.
Roland’s breach is a natural hole 40 m wide in the cliffs around the Gavarnie circus. A legend says that she would have been opened by Roland, nephew of Charlemagne, who was trying to break his sword Durandal against the rock after a battle in order to prevent his enemies from taking it.
