Algeria Foot – After his continental coronation with Al Ahli, the captain of the Algerian team, Riyad Mahrez, is bombed with praise.
Riyad Mahrez has just written a new golden page of his career by scoring his name in the annals of Asian football. On Saturday, the Algerian international offered Al Ahli the very first Asian Champions League in its history, thus sealing a rare continental double. Already crowned in the European Champions League with Manchester City in 2023, Mahrez joined an ultra-fermed circle of players who conquered the two most prestigious trophies of clubs worldwide.
The victory, acquired against the Japanese of Front Kawasaki (2-0), did not only mark a collective triumph for the Saudi club. It also highlighted the phenomenal impact of Mahrez throughout the competition. Top scorer with 9 achievements, second best passer with 8 most decisive offerings and player with 17 direct contributions in 13 games, the Algerian winger dominated the Asian scene with a sense of game and a consistency that forces respect.
In a workforce, however rich in international talents, it was Mahrez who was a technical and mental guide. His performance did not escape his teammates, like the Saudi right side Ali Majrashi who declared immediately: “Any player who plays with Riyad Mahrez necessarily learns something, even if he is very stupid! A raw formula, but revealing of the aura released by the captain of the Fennecs within the locker room.
-At 34, Mahrez demonstrates that his choice to join the Saudi Pro League was not a golden retreat, but a new stage in an exemplary course. His leadership, his efficiency and his influence on and off the field make him a real model, capable of transcending his partners and guiding his team towards heights never affected. Far from turning off, the Mahrez’s flame seems on the contrary to rekindle in this new context, where it continues to shine with elegance and requirement.
His Asian coronation is not only a personal feat: he redefines the contours of success on a global scale and strengthens his legend, as an ambassador of Algerian and African football.
