Surprise in theaters in 2018, the suspense comedy A Simple Favor (A little favor) has acquired increased popularity on digital platforms. Than a sequel, Another Simple Favor (Another little favor), was produced is therefore not surprising. What surprises is that we took so long. Rule of follow -up obliges, we are entitled to significantly the same thing, but with more characters, more revelations, in short, more of everything. And as often with the suites, all of this surplus ends in a film less good than the original.
Again, we find Stephanie, who went from naive vlogger obsessed with her neighbor glamour – And murderer -, Emily, to Author Cynique. In fact, Stephanie has just written a book on the events of the first film.
But now, in his existence, Emily, leaving prison and ready to marry an heir to the Italian mafia. Far from blaming Stephanie, who nevertheless made him incarcerate, Emily asks the first to be her bridesmaid during a sumptuous marriage in Capri.
Is Emily sincere, or is she cunning in order to take revenge on Stephanie?
While the guests are involved, the murders are increasing. Again, Stephanie will have to disentangle the threads quite tangled from the case.
What works best is, unsurprisingly, the complicity shared by Anna Kendrick (Stephanie) and Blake Lively (Emily). That Lively, in particular, manages to make people forget the hypermediatal judicial disentangles which oppose him to Justin Baldoni, its director and partner of It Ends with Us (Never more), says a lot about his tasty composition.
Director of the first, Paul Feig (Spy/Spy) is also back with its skill devoid of identity.
-In the radius of downside, the mafia component does not convince at all, in addition to being responsible for many lengths, and the final is downright ridiculous.
The hearty support distribution, which includes the too rare Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds), also has nothing to put in the tooth.
Most expensive than fresh
We will remember that the 2018 film was based on a novel by Darcey Bell, adapted by Jessica Sharzer. This suite comes from an original scenario by Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis.
Often, it looks like a crossing designed in committees, somewhere between the universe with agatha Christie mixed with second degree of Knives Out (With pulled knives) and exotic-political pranks of Murder Mystery (Murder and mystery), with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston. Not to mention the incalculable number of Ersatz that the revival of popularity of the genre of “ whodunit “Has generated in recent years.
It is now more outstanding than fresh, hence the surprise that, among producers ofA Simple Favorwe did not beat the iron while it was hot, that is to say much earlier. There remains the insight of Stephanie and, above all, the ambiguity of Emily.
