Rory McILroy about to dethrone the legend of the Scottie Scheffler golf after more than 100 weeks at the top

The golf world is in turmoil with the anticipation that Rory McILroy arouses, who is close to the crown of the longtime champion Scottie Scheffler. For 123 consecutive weeks, Scheffler occupied the top of the world’s official golf ranking, a feat only surpassed by the legend Tiger Woods. But now, the exceptional performance of McILroy in 2025, with three major victories to his credit, including the prestigious Masters, positioned it as a formidable candidate to end the hegemony of Scheffler.

The domination of Scheffler in 2024 was simply extraordinary, with seven victories on the PGA Tour, an Olympic gold medal and an exceptional season culminating with the title of player of the year. However, 2025 presented new challenges for the title champion, McILroy being after him. Despite solid performances, Scheffler has not yet managed to win a victory this season, choosing to jump the Truist Championship and focus on the next PGA Championship, leaving the door slightly interspersed so that McILroy can act.

With McILroy currently classified second worldwide, the absence of a scheffler of key tournaments could open the way to a change in the global official classification of golf. The McILroy path to resume first place goes through a victory at the Trist Championship and a strong performance at the PGA Championship. While the debate on OWGR supremacy is intensifying, Scheffler remains resolved, as evidenced by his recent performance in Byron Nelson, proving that he is not ready to abandon his title without fighting.

Despite the threat that weighs on his leading position, Scheffler showed his resilience during the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, highlighting his unshakable attention and his exceptional performance in difficult circumstances. While the PGA championship is approaching, all eyes are turned to Scheffler to see if he can maintain his momentum and win a crucial victory to consolidate his reign or if McILroy will seize the opportunity to go to the top. With the two players in great shape, the battle for golf supremacy has never been so intense.
