McLaren denounces a story that would be manipulated by Red Bull

Max Verstappen will go into pole position of the Miami Grand Prix this Sunday evening, and it will already be the third time this season. Director of McLaren, Andrea Stella does not believe a second that Red Bull is only an outsider. He believes that the Austrian stable builds a distorted story around his performances by claiming that she is reaching, with her quadruple world champion driving, to carry out miracles.

Since the start of the season, the exact level of performance of the RB21 has been a difficult mystery to unravel. There is no doubt that Max Verstappen draws its quintessence and is regularly exceptional at the wheel, but it remains difficult to locate the car in the hierarchy. The absence of a reliable reference in the second bucket, first occupied by Liam Lawson and then taken up by Yuki Tsunoda, adds to the confusion.

However, it remains admitted by almost all, that McLaren has the most efficient car on the set and especially the most regular. Nevertheless, the Woking stable continues to evacuate certain discourses as much as possible as to this supposed superiority, and Andrea Stella believes that Red Bull somewhat twists the reality to influence the general perception of the hierarchy.

“At Red Bull, they are very good at designing fast cars, I would even say exceptionally good for their cars to go quickly, and they are also extremely good for creating a story to their advantage”slides the Italian.

“They exploit all the possible opportunities to stay in the match, and sometimes these opportunities consist in building a story of the type: ‘Oh, we make miracles here, the others should be at the top of all the sessions: free tests, qualifications, and race’.”

“But it is a story created by some of our competitors, that we read from time to time, then we turn the page and we focus on ourselves. And when we focus on ourselves, we look at the figures, we look at the facts, and we look at what we have to improve. And there are a lot of things we have to improve.”

“So for me, when I look at the facts, I also see that Lando [Norris] and Oscar [Piastri] are regular. So bravo to Red Bull, including in their way of managing opportunities that are not technical. “

On the front line in Miami alongside Max Verstappen, Lando Norris marries his boss’s speech, and believes that the situation of his friend and rival for the title is very difficult to judge.

“It is impossible to know which car he has in relation to ours”he assures. “The advantage we have is to have two fast pilots, and not them. We have a car that allows drivers to go fast, but it’s impossible to know, impossible to really know the difference between the two cars.”
