For the first time in almost ten years and its complicated years with McLaren and Honda, Fernando Alonso addressed the sixth Grand Prix of the season without the slightest point on the clock. Aston Martin’s 2025 season takes a rather painful path for the moment, probably consolidating the English stable in his desire to bet everything on the regulatory turning point of 2026.
To do this, Silverstone’s latest campus welcomed its Adrian NewEy featured recruit in early March. The engineer who made the heyday of Williams, McLaren and Red Bull focuses only on the next season’s car, without worrying about the current AMR25. A few days ago, Fernando Alonso was able to approach the future for the first time with the leader of the technical project of the stable. What restore confidence in this gloomy period?
“Not really, I think I have never lost confidence, I am not too worried about the years to come”he assures. “I think that this season is simply the continuity of certain problems that we had already identified in the last two seasons, and that we have not managed to overcome. For next year, with the change of regulations and the arrival of Adrian, I think that nothing of the car of this year will be resumed. It will be a full reset, so I’m not too concerned.”
“And for this season, I think that the solution is not simple, there is nothing that we can do overnight. I went to the factory, I had lunch with Adrian, we discussed a little, but not really in detail on this year. It was rather a general discussion on the team, on his first impressions at Aston, and on the possible changes for a better future, thanks to his experience and his vision. By his side, so it was a beautiful day. “

Despite his thirst for results, Fernando Alonso fully understands the fact that Adrian Newey is not called to try to improve things on his current car. The Spaniard makes the round back, keeping the arrival of better days as conviction.
“I have neither the expertise nor the experience he has in car design, so I don’t really know how much it takes or how long he must devote to it”explains the double world champion. “I think he would no doubt have preferred to join the team a year ago, to be able to start working on 2026. So even for the 2026 project, I am sure he considers that it’s already a little late.”
“So I fully understand that he should focus only on next year’s car. That year’s, it was not he who designed it, he did not touch it, so I don’t think it’s up to him to correct it.”
