Fernando Alonso expects a lot from Adrian Newey for his first car at Aston Martin F1 in 2026.
The designer arrived in the Enetone team in early March, two months after the publication of the regulations.
A lost time that it was necessary to make up for the best, while learning to know his collaborators.
This is also why Spanish understands that Newey refuses to participate in any meeting concerning the current car.
“I think he would probably have preferred to join the team a year ago and start his ease more at the 2026 project. So, even for the 2026 project, he thinks it is late. So I understand perfectly that he must focus only on the car next year. He did not make the car of this year, he did not conceive anything of the car, so I do not think it’s up to him to find the solution,” entrusts the Spanish pilot to Miami.
Alonso has finally found time between Djeddah and Miami to chat with Newey during a lunch at the factory. What to give him confidence?
“Not really, because I have never lost confidence, I am not too worried about next year. I think this year is only the continuation of certain problems encountered in the past two seasons, and that we have failed to overcome certain obstacles.”
