New York, on May 2, 2025, WAFA – World food prices reached their highest level in two years in April, which indicates that uncertainty about customs prices is starting to weigh on trade.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said on Friday, in a press release, that the world prices for food products increased in April, due to the rise in prices of cereals, meat and dairy products.
The FAO index, which follows the monthly evolution of the most marketed food products in the world, increased from 1 percent to 128.3 points in April, against 127.1 estimated points in March, and is up 7.6 percent compared to the same month of last year.
-The index is still well below its 2022 peak, but the increase suggests that staple food in stores could become more expensive after a period of drop in food inflation.
The organization confirmed that “monetary fluctuations have affected price movements on the world markets, while the adjustments in customs policy increased the uncertainty of the market”.
