The White House unveiled on Friday the first draft budget of the second term of Donald Trump, an ultra-conservative project which pruks in international aid or subsidies deemed “woke”, sparing only military and security expenses.
The text, a first draft which will have to follow a long and difficult parliamentary course, includes a 13% increase in the defense budget and 65% of that of internal security. But it also provides cuts of 22% in non-military expenditure of the State, or 163 billion dollars.
“Reduce programs Woke»
It is a question of “reducing or removing programs woke Diverted against average Americans, unnecessary spending or that fall under local states or communities, “said the American executive.
During a press conference, officials of the White House explained that they were “united” with DOGE, this commission to reduce the public expenditure led by the multimillionaire Elon Musk, ally of Donald Trump.
And in fact, the text bears the mark of the boss of Tesla, which has already turned upside down the functioning of the federal administration, by returning thousands of civil servants and by closing entire agencies.
Ulcerated Democrat
The leader of the Democrats in the Senate immediately denounced the text: Donald Trump’s policy “is nothing other than an attack in good standing against the Americans who work hard,” said Chuck Schumer in a statement. “While he is gaping health programs, he attacks education and abolishing the programs on which families depend, he finances tax reductions for billionaires and large companies,” he added.
The budgetary project-which relates only to the expense part, without giving any indication of the revenue, in particular tax-promises to finance “massive evictions and put a stroke of the flow of advantages granted without limits to illegal migrants”, according to the White House.
Defense and security
This project identifies Donald Trump’s priorities, determined to dismantle the federal bureaucracy and to refocus the action of the central government in the sovereign areas such as defense or internal security.
A more complete version will then be subject to the downstream of the congress.
Many cuts desired by the republican government target programs deemed “Woke”, a derogatory term used by the conservatives to designate policies to promote diversity or university research currents on gender or racial discrimination.
The White House gives as an example programs to promote diversity in nursery school, funds intended for housing assistance, and especially the major American development aid agency, USAID, one of the Trump government’s favorite targets.
“American development aid has been directed to extreme left priorities such as climate change, diversity and inclusion programs, and activities related to the LGBTQ community,” asserts the American executive, for example by announcing the end of subsidies to family planning programs in Afghanistan, Syria and Africa.
