The foreign legion was under the spotlight, in this middle of the week. For the first time since its creation in 1831, the head of state presided over the Camerone ceremony.
It is clear that the Legion is an unchanging body, here, in its parent company in Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône).
Pioneers, at a slow pace, carry ax and neat beard. The tunes played by music recall the splendor of the great army. Before our eyes, a ceremony as millimeter as the regulatory shirt folds of Mr. Legionnaire. This love of the country forms the cement of the Legion, the only place in the world which welcomes 147 nationalities under the same green and red standard.
