Their age impresses, as much as their number. Fourteen children – 11 boys and three girls – were arrested in Gateshead, northern England, Northumbria police announced on Saturday. Aged 11 to 14 years old, they are suspected of “manslaughter”, after the death of a teenager in a fire.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the body of this 14 -year -old adolescent was discovered by firefighters in an industrial area of Gateshead, suburbs of Newcastle, where they were called on Friday evening. A fire broke out there around 8 p.m. (9 p.m. in France) and a young boy was missing.
Regular break -ins
According to residents of the district, interviewed this BBC this Sunday, adolescents regularly introduced themselves on the industrial site in question, abandoned for several years. Fires even trigger it often, without ever having the extent of the one who touched the place on Friday.
“The investigation is only in its infancy and the public is asked not to speculate” in the facts, a police spokesman said on Saturday, without making more comments. “I understand the shock that this represents for the community,” said one of the commissioners in charge of the investigation.
