Aboubakar murder in a Gard mosque: the Prime Minister had raised an “Islamophobic” act, in disagreement, Aurore Bergé assures that the term is “appropriate”

The Minister responsible for the fight against discrimination Aurore Bergé estimated Sunday that the term “Islamophobia” used by François Bayrou after the murder of a Muslim in a mosque was “not appropriate”, displaying her disagreement with the Prime Minister.

This term, “I understand those who can spontaneously use it, because they would see a way (…) to express support and empathy. But I think it is not an appropriate term,” said Bergé during the Grand Jury RTL/M6/Le Figaro/Public Senate.

“I also had this discussion with the Prime Minister. And we have the right also sometimes to have nuances. And this nuance for me, it is important, because I know that those who today want to impose this term, they are not with laudable intentions,” she added.

“I fight all forms of hatred, and without any hierarchy and without any distinction,” she added. “But I believe that the use of this term unfortunately risks bringing a form of confusion, and above all to be a lever for a certain number of enemies of the Republic, to impose the idea that one would not have the right to criticize a religion or that one would not have the right to blaspheme, while in our country it is rights”.

François Bayrou defended on Saturday in the JDD his job of the term “Islamophobic”, disputed by part of the political class, claiming that “we must have the courage to say things as they are”.

This term is practically not used by the right, which disputes it. The Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau had considered that “there is an ideological connotation of the term ‘Islamophobia’ very marked with regard to the Muslim Brotherhood, who means that in our ministry, we take the precaution not to use it”, after the murder of Aboubakar Cissé in the Gard.

Asked about anti -Semitism coming from the extreme left, Aurore Bergé estimated that the left must be “definitively broke” with LFI, because “the mere fact of anti -Semitism is enough to break, obviously, any electoral agreement”.

Concerning the national secretary of Ecologists Marine Tondelier, who “apologized” Friday after having made ambiguous remarks on the socialist Jérôme Guedj, taken to task like other socialists in the Parisian demonstration on May 1, Aurore Bergé said that she said that she says that here and now, today as tomorrow, there will never be any possibility of alliance with the rebellious France “.
