At the end of an unbreakable mano mano during the last kilometers with Joao Almeida, Lenny Martinez (Bahrain-Victorious) won at the top of Thyon 2000 and won the 4th stage of the Tour de Romandie. French also seizes the general’s head.
A week after the end of the spring classics, preparatory races for the various big towers begin with the Tour de Romandie. This Saturday was competed in the queen stage between Sion and Thyon 2000 for an arrival at the top after a long stage of 118.2 kilometers on the Swiss roads. Leader of the general before this fourth stage, Alex Baudin (EF-Education First) had very little chance of keeping his yellow tunic at the end of this stage during which the cadors were going to try in order to highlight themselves before the time trial on Saturday planned around Geneva. During a rather calm stage, all of this accelerated twenty kilometers from the finish where only Lenny Martinez (Bahrain-Victorious) was the only one to follow the acceleration of Joao Almeida (UAE-Emirates).
Towards a first since 2007?
While the two men were going to play the victory, it was French who was able to react to the multiple attacks of the Portuguese at the end of the race. 300 meters from the finish, Lenny Martinez placed his attack in order to distance his opponent. A victorious attack for the Habs won his second stage of the season after that won at Paris-Nice last March. The 21 -year -old Frenchman is a double blow since he also seizes the general’s head two seconds ahead of Lorenzo Fortunato (Astana) before the final time on Sunday. Note that Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), did not have legs to compete this Saturday. The Belgian finished at 1’29 “from France and points to 9th place du Général, at 1’41” of the leader of the race. Leader for a few seconds on the eve of the last stage of this Tour de Romandie, Lenny Martinez may become the first tricolor to win a stage test of the World Tour since Christophe Moreau during the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2007.
