In Islam, Friday is a sacred day. It is the day when the faithful gather at the mosque to pray together. Aboubakar Cissé, 22, was assassinated on Friday, April 25, within the Mosque of the Grande-Combe in the Gard, while he was preparing this prayer.
Friday, it is also the day that all the Beauvais mosques chose to call for the mobilization of the faithful (but not only) in order to pay tribute to Aboubakar Cissé and walk against Islamophobia. “”There is no need to be Muslim. You just have to be a human being“, Says Driss Ouazzani, secretary of the Great Mosque of Beauvais.”All the Beauvais mosques call all French citizens, republicans to come and demonstrate in relation to this odious act, this growing hatred against Muslim faithful, what is called Islamophobia“He continues.
Thus, this Friday, May 2, around 6.30 p.m., more than 250 people gathered in front of the Grande Mosque de Beauvais before walking to the town hall, Place Hachette. “”All mosques representatives are present. There is really a unit of all Beauvais mosques. There are also people who come from the whole Oise, from Creil, from Clermont …“Rejoices Driss Ouazzani.

Local political figures were also present, such as Morhad Laghrari, municipal councilor and Lionel Chriss, finance assistant at the town hall of Beauvais. “”What rekindles our hearts is that there are French citizens of any confession, there is really everything, it’s really very important“.

You don’t feel listened to.
Driss Ouazzani, secretary of the Great Beauvais Mosque
Faced with the murder of Aboubakar Cissé and the political and media treatment that followed, Driss Ouazzani deplores “One two weights, two measurements” : “It is deplorable that the Minister of the Interior took 48 hours to move, and not even to the mosque, but to the sub-prefecture. Recently, one of our sisters was attacked, we removed his veil, we barely talk about it. We don’t feel listened to, we is always forced to justify that we are French“.
