Bronca among Toulouse bullfights of bullfight, who denounce the “disappearance” of the bullfighting radius to the white shadows. Ulcerated, its director Christian Thorel enters the arena.

The little taurin world of the pink city sees red. In question, the eviction, noted by the aficionados of Toulouse, of the “bullfighting” radius of the shelves of the white shadows. A “disappearance” which is worried about the Toulouse Taurine youth collective, founded barely two months ago, “constitutes an attack on the transmission of local Taurine culture, which is still alive with young generations.”

“We have received messages from lovers of bullfighting asking us to focus our voice on this question,” explains Ethan Carpentier, the founder of the collective. “Friends have shown us videos noting this disappearance and we have written a press release that we disseminate today, since no public explanation was provided to us.”

Beyond this “concern”, the collective intends to denounce what he believes to be “a desire to erase the taurine culture of our city”. Recall that the last band was planted in Toulouse soil on October 3, 1976 at the arenas of the Sun-D’Or, in the Saint-Cyprien district. Nevertheless: Ethan Carpentier, who had not yet, when these lines are written, contacted the direction of white shadows, insists that Toulouse is a city in which many bullfight lovers are sorry for this bookish death.

“Very unpleasant methods”

For his part, Christian Thorel, the director of the emblematic Toulouse bookstore, is wrong and sweeps away general and multiple accusations against bullfighting, which he judges “violent”: “we say nothing, we ask nothing, we circulate things on social networks: these are very unpleasant methods, methods of thoroughness.” “The truth is that we have decided to rebuild this ray and move it to literature. I spoke with my friend Yves Charnet, who told me, like many authors on the question, that he preferred his books to be exposed there, in the literature department.”

The bullfighting publications, observes the boss of white shadows, are mainly sold on the sites of Tauromachie like Nîmes or Vic-Ferensac, but represent a much smaller production, with the exception of a few publishing houses such as Le Diable Vauvert. “What we want, despite this ridiculous avalanche of press releases and photos sent to the networks, is that we are living a little. It is not a car race! In a few weeks, and certainly before summer, the publications linked to the bullfighting will have joined the literature, perhaps under another name, or perhaps under the name Tauromachie.” A development which, hopefully, will calm the most … bloody spirits.
