For the first time, the national Türkiye stand marked the 39th edition of the Tunis International Book Fair, attracting a host of book lovers.
Inaugurated on April 25 during a ceremony by Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed, the Fair welcomed a national stand of Türkiye for the first time.
Organized at the Kram exhibition center under the slogan “We read to build”, the fair brings together 313 publishers, mainly foreign, until May 4.
The Türkiye stand, a true showcase of country culture and literature, has sparked a lively enthusiasm with visitors.
Established by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, Stand highlights literary works, the history and traditions of the country, with the help of the Türkiye Embassy in Tunis, the Yunus Emre Institute, the Turkish historical institution and the Maarif Foundation.
Ambassador Ahmet Misbah Demrican has highlighted the deep cultural similarities between Tunisia and Türkiye, recalling the historic heritage of 350 years which links the two nations. He also noted the growing popularity of Türkiye in Tunisia, carried by television series and educational initiatives.
The interest in the Turkish language is booming in Tunisia, where around 200,000 visitors go to Türkiye each year and 2,000 Tunisian students in its universities.
-Turkish lessons are given in 30 Tunisian schools by teachers affiliated with the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye, while the Yunus Emre Institute actively promotes Turkish language and culture.
“Teaching Turkish is a powerful way to transmit our culture,” said the half -checked ambassador, stressing the importance of channeling this craze.
The Türkiye stand also served as a platform to present the projects of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, including the Teda program, which supports the translation of Turkish works internationally, particularly in the Arab world.
Ayhan Hazırlar, representative of the ministry, said that copies of these publications were exposed to promote exchanges with foreign publishers. Meetings with Tunisian booksellers and publishers have made it possible to establish promising contacts for a future collaboration.
The discussions carried out during the fair opened prospects for an increased Tunisian participation in international book fairs in Türkiye, such as the Arab book fair or Tüyap Istanbul.
“The interest in our stand is delighted with us and lays down the basics of strengthening cultural ties,” said Hazırlar.
These exchanges, combined with the enthusiasm of visitors, testify to the positive impetus of cultural relations between Tunisia and Türkiye, promised to a flourishing future.
