The city of Cologne is preparing, as every year since 1984, to celebrate photography in all its forms. To inaugurate this photographic festival which will animate the city for a month, an opening ceremony is planned at the Ludwig museum, in the presence of all artists, conservatives and collective exhibitors.

Throughout the month, the 99 exhibitions will take visitors to the geographic and temporal ride, from Ethiopia of the last century to the Japanese cultural heritage classified at UNESCO, via the portrait of the solidarity of Egyptian women today.

With the Artist Meets Archives #4 project, it was the archives of the City of Cologne that served as the basis for the development of five exhibitions created by international artists in residence. The opportunity to return to certain events that have marked the history of the city, as when the Chimpanzee Petermann escaped from the Cologne Zoo in 1985, and was immortalized in many photographs. An episode that inspires Polish photographer Marta Bogdańska, forty years later, a photographic project in the form of a questioning of coexistence between humans and “non-human animals” in Cologne.

French photographer François Delarderrière will take part in the festival by participating in the exhibition Calamite / to. For more information, go to our dedicated agenda sheet.

All information on artists and exhibition places can be found on the official event of the event.
