Survey – An explosion, caused by “negligence” concerning sodium perchlorate, had devastated an Iranian port and left at least 70 dead
Two people, including an Iranian government official, were arrested after an explosion that killed dozens on April 26 in the largest commercial port in Iran, national television announced on Sunday. The deflagration, heard tens of kilometers around, occurred on a quay in the port of Shahid Rajaï, in southern Iran, where a fifth of world oil production and 85 % of goods in Iran pass.
“A government manager and another in the private sector have been arrested” on the orders of justice, said television, citing a report by the government’s investigation committee. According to an official assessment, at least 70 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured in the explosion, assigned by the authorities to “non-compliance with security measures” and “negligence”. The local red crescent announced the end of the research operation on Saturday night, according to the official IRNA agency.
On Monday, the investigation committee announced that “false statements (goods) were made” and that the authorities were looking for “identifying the authors”. He announced on Sunday that “the accused were identified” and that “the convening process is underway” for “the question of false declarations”, without providing more details.
