It is a mystery that has captured more than 200,000 enthusiasts for three decades. Friday evening, lovers of the famous “owl of gold” finally obtained the answers to the 11 puzzles of an extraordinary treasure hunt, launched in 1993. A film, screened in several cinemas, lifted the veil on the exact location of the precious object: at the heart of the Dabo forest, and therefore, in Moselle!
Disappeared for over 30 years, the owl could have been anywhere in France. It was finally 6.93 meters from a stone, towards the famous Dabo rock, that it was unearthed last October by a researcher who remained anonymous. To locate it, it was necessary to decipher complex puzzles such as maps and mathematical calculations. A solution that continues to fuel debates within the community, always divided between “daboists” and skeptics.
-The original sculpture, estimated at 150,000 euros, is a 10 kilos piece in precious metals. His discovery ends an obsessive quest that marked this town of 2,400 inhabitants.
But the adventure does not stop there. Building on the enthusiasm aroused by this first quest, Michel Becker, co-creator of the hunt and guardian of the treasure, announced the launch of a second edition. A new owl of gold, a work of high goldsmithery estimated between 250,000 and 300,000 euros, will soon be hidden. And it is since Dabo that hunting, this time with an international ambition.
