The water level at its highest in the coming hours?

VAT Gatineau | May 2 2025

The floods continue in Gatineau. After the Aylmer sector, it is now the east of the city that is under surveillance.

On the ground, the signs of the rise of waters are clearly visible, in particular along rue Jacques-Cartier, where certain parks are already partially flooded.

The minor flood thresholds have been crossed, but the authorities want to be reassuring: the levels should remain below major flooding.

The situation affects a vast territory, going from Pointe-Gatineau to Hawkesbury, passing through Lake Coulonge, Lake Chats, Britannia, Lake Deschênes, Cumberland and Clarence-Rockland.

According to forecasts, water levels will remain high beyond May 5.

In Pointe-Gatineau, preventive measures have been taken.

We remain in vigilance mode. A pump has been installed to prevent water from entering the residential areas, and pipes have been deployed to redirect the water. Access to a park has been blocked as a precaution. For the moment, the water level remains within the acceptable limits. There is no need to panic, but we remain cautious.

Mike Duggan, city councilor of the Pointe-Gatineau district

The sandbag collection centers remain accessible for citizens in the Parc du Lac-Beauchamp and in the Masson-Angers sector.
