A dramatic accident that could relaunch the debate on the conduct of the elderly. This Wednesday, April 9, shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, a light vehicle collided with a heavy goods vehicle. He was rolling against a double way of the departmental 824, in the Tartas-Dax direction. At the wheel, a 96 -year -old man died instantly.
According to information from the Landes firefighters, after the first collision, the heavy goods vehicle struck “By ricochet” Another light vehicle. The driver, a woman in her thirties, has been seriously injured and must, at this time, be disturbed by the emergency services in intervention on the spot. The truck driver, a 63 -year -old man, was slightly injured and was transported to the nearest hospital.
The intervention is still in progress with 16 firefighters deployed and five devices. On site, after the Begaar roundabout, traffic is “Very strongly impacted and slowed in both directions for several kilometers”. The road is completely cut in the Tartas-Dax direction and only one track is open in the opposite direction. “We recommend caution and avoid this sector if possible”, specifies the departmental service of Landes roads.
This serious accident involving an elderly person is not isolated. According to our colleagues from France Bleu Gironde, Tuesday, April 8, a 70 -year -old motorist overthrew a mother and her two children on the way to school. A six -year -old girl was transported in absolute emergency to Pellegrin Hospital in Bordeaux.
Since Tuesday 1is April, a bill is also studied in the National Assembly and could impose a medical examination, carried out by a general practitioner or approved, every five years on drivers over the age of 70. Before this age, a visit every fifteen years could also be imposed on all drivers. The law then indicates that the results will be transmitted to the prefecture, which will then decide on the maintenance, renewal or suspension of the permit.
