Two hikers discover in a Czech forest a cache of gold and jewelry estimated at 300,000 euros

At the beginning of February of this year, two hikers made an astonishing discovery in a Czech forest: a cache full of gold parts and jewelry.

Without wasting time, the two adventurers took care to package the precious loot and contacted the local authorities to report their find, reports Muglehead magazine. In all, no less than 598 pieces in solid gold, struck in France, Belgium, Austria-Hungary, and dating from the Ottoman Empire, which made up this treasure. To this are added a dozen bracelets, sixteen cigarette cases, a comb, as well as a key attached to a chain.

The pieces, which cover a period from 1808 to 1915, bear several clues suggesting that they were re-marked in the years 1930-1940 in the territories of the former socialist republic of Yugoslavia (which included Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia).

A treasure estimated at 300,000 euros

According to the first assessments, the parts could be worth nearly $ 340,000, or around 300,000 euros. However, hikers have chosen not to pocket this sum. They gave the treasure to a local museum, but they will not leave empty -handed. In accordance with Czech legislation, they will receive a commission of 10% of the value of gold parts.

At the announcement of this discovery, many Internet users wondered about the identity of the person who has hidden such a fortune. According to managers of the Museum of Hradec Kràlove, it is possible that this treasure was hidden by the Nazis during the annexation of the region in the 1930s.
